Frequently Asked Questions

What is SIP?

SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) is a method of investing in mutual funds where you invest a fixed amount regularly (monthly/quarterly). It helps in building wealth over time through the power of compounding.

How is SIP return calculated?

SIP returns are calculated using the formula: FV = P × ((1 + r)^n - 1) / r × (1 + r), where P is monthly investment, r is monthly return rate, and n is number of months. Our calculator uses this exact formula.

What is the minimum amount for SIP?

Most mutual funds allow SIP investments starting from ₹500 per month. Some funds may have a minimum of ₹1000 or ₹5000 depending on the fund type.

What is the average return on SIP?

Historically, equity mutual funds have given 12-15% returns over the long term. However, returns are not guaranteed and depend on market conditions. Our calculator uses 12% as default.

Is SIP tax-free?

ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Scheme) SIPs are tax-deductible under Section 80C up to ₹1.5 lakh. Other SIPs are subject to capital gains tax based on holding period.

Can I stop SIP anytime?

Yes, you can pause or stop your SIP anytime. There is no lock-in period for most mutual funds (except ELSS which has 3-year lock-in).

Is this calculator accurate?

Yes, our calculator uses the standard SIP formula with monthly compounding. Results are accurate to 2 decimal places. However, actual returns may vary based on market performance.
